Scenic Drivwe and Karekare Road repairs update
The following information was provided by Mark Allem, Waitakere Ranges Local Board member and advocate for Piha.
Scenic Drive - Update from AT re Elevation site drainage and Road works
"We are finalising the preparations for the repairs near 463 Scenic Drive. This is in the section of Scenic Drive between the where the Elevation Café was located, and West Coast Road intersection.
Last week our team carried out some CCTV inspections of stormwater pipes and undertook some service investigations. A little clearance work has taken place in preparation.
We expect the team will start working later in September on installing the fan drains. They expect to be working from inside the property of 463, where the house has been deconstructed by Auckland Council. The fan drains are a series of many small pipes that will be installed under the road and uphill into the mountain side above. The drains will continuously drain the water from the earth and keep the water table at a lower level.
The works in this area will include repaving this section of the road, and swale works, some kerbs to safely direct the water, and the culvert inspection works.
Swales – are the “gutters” that run alongside rural road, and culverts are the pipes that run under the road to take the water to the downhill side of the road. Water then travels via overland flow paths downhill.
At times, the road will be under one way traffic management.
Please be mindful as you travel – especially at West Coast Road Intersection, now that Scenic Drive to Titirangi is open."
Karekare Road - Update from AT on progress for the repair on Karekare Road Slip Repair
Last week we completed the construction of the timber retaining wall which is uphill from the block wall that was completed earlier.
We have also completed the lagging, and the back fill behind the retaining wall.
This week we will be working on the road pavement repairs where the road has failed, today Chorus were relocating the fibre cable.
