Proposed Bus Service - Survey

We all know, public transport in the Waitakere Ranges is non-existent and your Piha R&R have, over the years, made many attempts to reinste a Piha bus service.

Piha R&R committee members recently attended a meeting of the Waiatarua R&R Committee that included a Local Board member. We were informed that there is again a push to have some form of a regular bus service running from Piha down through Waiatarua and Oratia to Glen Eden where users can then link onto the existing Bus and Rail network.

An appropriate bus service would have a number of advantages –

  • Day trippers to the beaches and parks could visit via the bus service, thus reducing the traffic on our roads and the pressure on carparks throughout the region.

  • Residents who need to make the trip to locations beyond the Waitakeres for work or education could use the urban public transport system.

  • Residents who wish to visit other areas for recreational or entertainment purposes could leave their vehicle at home.

  • Residents who are no longer able to drive would have a regular service to allow them to travel to local suburbs or into Auckland central

The list goes on !! …It should be noted that this service would not impact on the current School Bus timetable.

The Local Board have indicated that there has been some success in other fringe areas of Auckland with bus services being introduced. To enable us to pursue the “argument” we would like to ask residents for feedback by way of a simple questionnaire –

PLEASE follow the Proposed Bus Service Questionnaire link and complete the short questionnaire.
