Piha R&R News Update - 28 September
Living at Piha we should all know that the Spring equinox brings cold westerly winds and rain. This year is no exception and we can now look forward to predicted warmer winds and dry weather of the forecat El Nino weather patterns. Hopefully with enough rain to keep water tanks full.
Meanwhile your Piha R&R committee continues to work on issues that affect our precious and much loced community:
Piha Domain Upgrade: We are continuing to work with the Waitakere Ranges Local Board on resolving the disappointing mess that has resulted from the “upgrades.” We need amenities, a safe space without a racetrack for “hoons,” and adequate safe parking. Remedial work has been promised.
Piha Road Stormwater: The stormwater drains down the Piha Road hill, from the lookout to Pendrell Rd, that have remain blocked with debris year on year, have been scheduled for clearing during October.
North Piha Carpark: This is Regional Park land and Chief Ranger Dave Markham advises that contractors will be working on resurfacing the area this week with completion by Friday 2nd October.
Piha Campground: Your Piha R&R committee, as well as many others, have been advocating strongly in support of Fiona and the Canpground. We undertand the Campground could be open for Labour Weekend, but long term outcomes are still under discussion.
South and Mid-Beach Carparking: The mid-beach “lakes” remain and we keep pushing for appropriate maintenance. South carpark tyre stops were renoved last year and we are pushing for their return before the summer visitor rush.
Seaview Road: Maintenance has been scheduled for night hours this week, but the scope is unclear. We hope it includes SLOW road marking at the “Milk Track” bend.
Piha Bowling Club: We congratulate the Bowling Club on their new roof, new kitchen operator and menu, all in time for the new Bowling season. For the full story, videos, etc. Piha Bowling Club news on their website HERE.
Piha Community Post Office: For those who may be unaware, this facility is owned and operated by Piha R&R for the community and relies on your support for it’s ongoing viability. Postnistress duteies are now shared by Chris and Lisa. Pop in, say hello ans support the Piha Post Office.
Piha R&R Committee meets at the Bowler on the second Thursday each month, 6:30pm. Come and talk with us, especially if you have suggestions or concerns related to Piha and the community. Past meeting Minutes HERE.
Membership: We encourage all in the Piha community to become members. Strong membership gives us a strong voice to advocate with Council for improved services, maintenance and infrastructure for Piha. Fees are currently $25 per member for the year. (1st November, 2025 thru 31 October, 2026.) This includes free copies of the Piha Community News. Please support your community.
