Piha Matariki Festival returns for 2025

Come Together to Celebrate Matariki

The way our community came together after Cyclone Gabrielle was truly inspiring. Let’s keep that spirit alive as we celebrate Matariki — a time to reflect, reconnect, and look forward.

This year, the Piha Recovery Steering Group are proud to present the Piha Matariki Festival 2025, with support from the Piha R&R and the Waitākere Ranges Local Board. There are many events that are free and open to everyone, with something for all ages.

Start the weekend with a Hau Tapu ceremony and dawn observation with local storyteller Pita Turei at South Piha Beach, on Friday 20 June. Take part in our many fun and festive activities, and wrap the weekend up with shared kai at a free Community Hangi at the Piha Campground on the afternoon of Sunday 22 June, followed by a free family movie night at Barnett Hall.

Check out the full schedule below. There is more information about the events on the website: www.pihamatariki.com
