Piha community can do better ! Jordi and Sean have been doing such a great job of nurturing these endangered dotterel chicks at Piha, only to have their work and the lives of the chicks destroyed by irresponsible dog owners. One of three dotterel chicks has disappeared due to a dog attack. Commiserations to Jordi and Sean who have been doing such a great job of looking after these birds and had recently banded them.
Piha NZ dotterel minders Jordi Tablada and Sean Mackenzie helped Adrian from Birds New Zealand put Engraved Leg Flags (or ELFs) on the three nearly fledged chicks so we know if they come back to the same spot next year. Such great news that under the dotterel minders care the chicks have managed to survive a busy summer at Piha. Well done guys!
